Michigan Dispensaries See Record Growth Despite Rising Taxes

Michigan’s legal cannabis industry continues to grow, with dispensaries reporting record sales in the first quarter of 2025. Local businesses like GreenLeaf Wellness in Grand Rapids and Pure Michigan Cannabis in Lansing say demand remains strong, but many worry that proposed tax increases could threaten future growth.

“People are excited about legal cannabis, but a 24% excise tax hike would make it much harder for small businesses to survive,” said Lisa Thompson, owner of GreenLeaf Wellness. “Our goal is to keep cannabis affordable for patients and everyday consumers while supporting Michigan jobs.”
